Give any obsessive, compulsive engineer nearly 10 years to ponder the design possibilities for equalizers, filters, compressors, and limiters, and there just might be a few new ideas at the end of the decade.  That is just what the Retro Pack plug-in line is – a new set of ideas on some very old concepts – equalization, filtering, compression, and limiting. 

The MC2000 plug-in has the power and flexibility to emulate a wide variety of compressors in two, three, and four band configurations.  But when the honeymoon of multi-band vintage emulations ends (if that were possible), the numerous uses of the MC2000 become apparent.  This edition of Colin’s Corner focuses on the wide range of applications that have made the MC2000 one of the most popular multi-band compressor plug-ins ever created.

McDSP is probably best known for our emulations of high-end outboard analog EQ and dynamics emulations in our various plug-in products.  Along the way we’ve done a few products outside the scope of this mantra such as our guitar amp and effects plug-in called Chrome Tone. 

For over a decade McDSP has been making high quality professional audio software for the consummate professional.  This summer we’ve embarked on a new effort with the creation of our first iPhone application called Retro Recorder. 

The development of surround sound formats has created more opportunities for the audio engineer to explore and exploit the sonic possibilities.  But with the flexibility came technical problems and challenges.  Fortunately, some of these issues are addressed by the Channel G Surround plug-in from McDSP. 

A decade of experience making plug-ins for the professional recording studios of the world translates nicely into products for live sound.  The Digidesign VENUE live sound production systems take full advantage of the TDM plug-ins originally found only in Pro Tools, and McDSP has been supporting this new platform since it’s beginning.  But just what are the cool features that make McDSP plug-ins ideal for live sound production?  Glad you asked.  And so another diatribe we call ‘Colin’s Corner’ begins…

Over the last decade McDSP has attended many trade shows.  We demo products, talk with customers, and arm wrestle dealers over the upcoming years’ sales forecasts.  Many of the same conversations are had over and over, particularly when it comes to some of the finer points of McDSP products.
